HIV testing is recommended following a risk encounter (having unprotected sexual activity), and then in 3 months. It can take antibodies up to 3 months to form. An antibody is a protein that the immune system forms to fight germs and other unwanted elements entering the body.  Hence, the immune system forms HIV antibodies when the virus enters the body.

The Higher the Risk Encounter - The Higher the Risk Exposure.
